Mini-Carnival!

Our final party this year was a mini-carnival. Each teen who completed the requirements to attend the final party received 5 tickets. Then a ticket was received for each book read over the summer. These tickets were used to play games and get lots of prizes…mostly candy.

Hungry Howie’s of Wixom supplied us with enough pizza to go around and we are so grateful for their generosity because this final party had more teens attend than anticipated…so THANK YOU HUNGRY HOWIE’S!

We had five prizes this year for the teens who qualified for the drawing (and they could get more entries by reading more books). Congratulations to the following:

5th prize – $10 gift card to Dermott’s: Alicia J.
4th  prize – $15 gift card to Barnes & Noble: Surae S.
3rd prize – $20 gift card to Emagine Novi: Ellie G.
2nd prize – $30 gift card to GameStop: Lea I.
and
Grand prize – $50 gift card to Twelve Oaks Mall: Grace B.

My only complaint was that I had to miss the party because I was very sick. I found out that I missed a very heated water balloon fight and our pinata was destroyed by the winners of the tug-of-war contest. Thanks to my coworker Andrea for hanging out with the teens and making the final party a success!

Check out the pictures of the party!

Altered Art

Altered Art drew a big crowd again this year…we just put out all of our art supplies and the teens went with it creating some really cool pieces.

FOOD FEAR FACTOR

Food Fear Factor went pretty much as planned…TWO teens vomited…the only surprise was that despite the giant trash cans planted next to them, neither of these teens chose to use it which made for a super fun clean-up. Don’t worry…I won’t share your names. ;)

Congratulations to Smrithi S. who won, despite being a vegetarian and having to eat even grosser concoctions to make up for not having to eat the snails or chocolate-covered crickets.

2nd Annual UNO Tournament

The UNO Tournament was a little crowded and a little noisy…but it was so much fun. Congratulations to our winners! Our Grand Prize of a $15 gift card to 7-eleven went to Brittany M. The other winners at the final table each received a $5 gift card to 7-eleven: Samuel B., Bridget H., Jasmine D. & Ethan M.

Hacky Sack!!!

Some of my teens know what I went through to find a hacky sack expert…it took me months…but Jay Moldenhauer was totally worth it. Jay is a three-time world champion in footbagging. I honestly didn’t know there was such a thing but now that I’ve seen it up close, I’m just in awe of how much work goes into it.

We had more teens show up for the hacky sack program than we had for last year’s final party. It was awesome. I hope we can have Jay back sometime soon! Hint, Hint…this is a reminder to all of the teens about the deal Jay gave us…10 of you need to come and show me 5 consecutive kicks before the end of the summer and he’ll come visit for free!!!

Otaku Fest

The second teen program for the summer was our Anime Club Special…we usually meet once a month, but we only meet once in the summer so we try to make it big. We watched Fruits Basket, made onigiri plushies, origami and we ate an unbelievable amount of sushi and japanese candy.
